Competitions
DAM sponsors three competitive events each year and encourages all members to participate. Competition is not required; however, many members use the events as motivation for training and as a measure of their progress. Some workouts are tailored for those preparing for upcoming competitive events.
1. USMS One Hour Postal Championship
Each year, DAM encourages all members to take the one hour challenge - swim the USMS One Hour Postal Championship. This year, DAM is the host of the event! Across the country, over 2,500 swimmers take the challenge: hop into the pool and swim for an hour. DAM has won 5 National Postal Championships, most recently in 2009-2011. In 2012, DAM was unseated by a multi-state team, New England Masters, which has nearly 2,000 members. In 2013, DAM aims to take back the title!
2. Lake Berryessa Swim
DAM's Annual Lake Berryessa Swim is one of the longest running open water swim events in America. Begun in 1981 as a friendly lake swim, this event now attracts over 500 swimmers each year to the Oak Shores campground on the shores of Lake Berryessa. Stay tuned for more information on Lake Berryessa Swim in June 2013.
3. Brute Squad Postal Championship
Are you a brute? If not, become one by participating in DAM's Brute Squad Postal Championship. DAM has been challenging members for many years to be a brute ... what's a brute? Well, the Brute Squad event takes the three most difficult events in swimming: the 200 butterfly, the 400 IM, and the 1650 freestyle, and combines them into a single event! Sounds crazy, doesn't it?
In 2011, DAM held its first long course meet at UC Davis' Schall Pool. A long course meet was not held in 2012, but stay tuned for another DAM long course meet in 2013!
Davis Masters Win Medium Size Team Division
Moraga, CA – The Davis Aquatic Masters finished first in the medium team division at the Pacific Masters Swimming Short Course Championships held April 5-7 at the Soda Swim Center. The team finished with 1,077, almost 300 points ahead of second place Santa Rosa Masters.
Top performers from DAM were Matt Roper (32 yrs old), Andee Bell (37) and Mark Evans (55) who all earned High-Point awards in their age groups. Bell was 1 of only 4 swimmers out 615 at the meet to have a perfect score of 63 points, earning first-place in every event she swam. She also set one PacMasters regional record in the 50 Brst with a time of 32.14. That time, along with her 100 Free (55.28) and 100 IM (1:03.11) were also DAM team records.
Another PacMasters, and DAM, record of 3:48.89 was set in the Men’s 55+ 400 Free Relay by the team of Evans, Craig Zais, Bill Henderson and Andy McPherson.
