DAM Big Day of Fishing

Head Coach's Message

Thank you to everyone who made generous donations to the club last week! It was amazing to see all the support from so many people. DAM is truly a special organization and a lot of it has to do with our amazing members. These donations will help keep things running smoothly for the foreseeable future.

As of today, we have $19,000 net in donations, which far exceeds our goal of $15,000. There are many people who worked hard to make this happen and I am grateful to see DAM's spirit in action. Big shout out to all the volunteers who helped out and Sharon Blaha who organized this awesome event!

What's the Story on the Octopus?

Pat Long's picture with the octopus on his lap raised some questions. In case you missed it, Pat Long handles course setup at the Berryessa swim, and his picture for donations, showed him in his boat with an octopus. The octopus was found in one of his crab traps. Seems as though some people were curious about the outcome for the octopus. In hopes of settling any concern for the octopus, Pat assures us that the octopus was set free and returned safely to the ocean. Jackie Romo donated $50 to DAM for the octopus, just to make sure.

Moral to the story? DAM cares.

Lake Berryessa 39th Open Water Swim

Thanks to everyone who has already signed up for volunteer jobs. We have several areas that are not yet filled. Friday volunteers help set up tents, tables, and chairs. Consider helping at the start, where you will manage swimmers as they enter the water. Volunteers at the finish collect timing chips and celebrate with swimmers as they complete the race. Volunteers at body marking hand out timing chips and mark numbers on swimmers’ arms. First aid volunteers assist swimmers as needed. We are still looking for water safety volunteers to ensure a safe swim for everyone. We always need help loading the truck at the lake and unloading the truck at Civic Pool.

Sign up for a volunteer job and time slot:

  • Follow this link to volunteer at Berryessa.
  • Scan the QR code to go right to the registration page.
  •  NEW! Sign up at Civic Pool on the poster on the window.

If you have questions contact Kathy Gill.

Thanks,

Kathy

President's Message

Summer Swim Schedule

As has been our history, the DAM summer swim schedule has included long course training options as well as sharing more daytime hours at Civic with the Aquadarts.

In June of 2020 when DAM returned to the pools with one-swimmer-per-lane, out of necessity, the club expanded its weekday programming by offering Civic practices at 8 and 9am on MWF. It was our good fortune as those hours traditionally are used in the summer months by the Darts. After their own hiatus, the Darts returned to their morning summer schedule last season.

This summer the Darts are back at Civic to those same pre-lockdown summer swim times and have been assigned by the City to the 8:00-10:00am hours from Mon, June 12 through Friday, August 4

We realize many of the current 8 and 9am swimmers have grown accustomed to swimming during these extra hours and ask they, once again, bear with this adjustment by returning to their previously attended practice times.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Long Course Schedule

Unfortunately, during the current renovation of UCD's Schaal pool, we don't expect to offer any long course training this summer. We were in dialogue with Woodland about their 50m pool but those communications proved unfruitful.
