Record Turnout at Schaal Meet: 144 Swimmers Smash Club's Goal

DAM's meet at Schaal this past weekend drew 144 swimmers to the deck, blowing past the club's goal of 100 and marking one of the best-attended events the club has hosted in recent memory. The turnout translated into a well-run event for competitors and a strong fundraising boost for the club.
The meet's success rested on more than 50 volunteers who stepped up to run the event, from timing to hospitality. Head Coach and CEO singled out two standouts for special recognition: Brad Winsor, who ran computer operations, and Kevin Waterson, who served as Head Referee. "We could not have run the meet without you guys," the club said in its weekly update.
Every DAM swimmer who competed also earned praise for representing the club well in the water. Club leadership confirmed more meets like this one are on the way, and encouraged members who missed this event — whether racing or volunteering — to get involved next time.
SAVE THE DATE
DAM Fall Picnic Set for October 10 at Arroyo Park
DAM families are invited to gather Saturday, October 10, starting at 4:30 p.m. in the new picnic area near the pool at Arroyo Park. Members are asked to bring their own dinner and drinks along with a snack or dessert to share, and lawn games — cornhole, ladder toss, and lawn darts among them — are welcome additions to the evening. Family and friends are welcome to attend.

Board Seeks Nominations for Four Open Director Seats
The DAM Board of Directors is accepting nominations to fill four seats for the 2027–2028 term. Directors serve two-year terms overseeing club bylaws, budget, and policy, and commitments rise during fundraisers, the Lake Berryessa Open Water Swim, and meets hosted by DAM. All nominees must be DAM members in good standing.
Members may nominate themselves or a teammate — nominators putting forward a teammate should confirm that person's willingness to serve first. Statements of interest (200 words) and a photo are due October 2, 2026, and should be sent to Board Member Kent Anderson at kentaanderson@gmail.com.

Coach Appreciation Week Runs October 5–11
DAM will honor its coaching staff during Coach Appreciation Week, October 5 through 11. Gifts are welcome but not required — club leadership notes that a word on deck or a quick thank-you note means just as much to coaches who put in the hours to help swimmers improve.

The shop stocks the same equipment used at DAM workouts, and DAM members receive 10% off equipment purchases, with additional holiday discounts expected later in the year.

September Points Opportunities Still Open
Two chances remain this month to score points in DAM's Grand Prix standings: the Keller Cove Open Water Swim at the Pac Masters Championships on September 20, and a 30-days-of-September challenge — 30 minutes of swimming a day through the end of the month (a late start is fine).
